German police officers suspended for racism

The German government faces growing calls to crack down on right-wing extremism in the police after the suspension of 29 officers who exchanged internet chatroom messages including images of Hitler, swastikas and a photo montage of a refugee in a concentration camp gas chamber. The officers based at police stations in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia shared more than 100 images banned under a law that prohibits the use of unconstitutional symbols. One image depicted a fictional portrayal of a dark-skinned youth being shot dead.
