Two 14 year old indigenous children escape their dreary petrol-sniffing existence by stealing a car and heading to Alice Springs.

By casting two ordinary Indigenous teenagers and placing them in the heart of a traditional Indigenous Australian setting, the filmmaker provokes the unsettling idea that Samson and Delilah are just one symbol, representing many Indigenous youth that are struggling to find their place in the world.

Senator Fatima Payman steps down from prestigious committee

 






WA Labor Senator Fatima Payman has resigned from her position on a prestigious parliamentary foreign affairs committee, after breaking party ranks to accuse Israel of genocide.

She was also quoted saying “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

Jewish Liberal backbencher Julian Leeser used Question Time to ask Albanese to remove Payman from parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade.

The WA senator is Australia's first hijab-wearing parliamentarian.

UNRWA gets 30 days to move out

 



The Israeli Land Authority said UNRWA owes them "a sum of $7.3m for operating on land belonging to Israel without consent for the last seven years."

They have ordered UNRWA to leave their headquarters in occupied Jerusalem within 30 days.


Traditional owner wants to invite tourists to his land

 



Djok traditional owner Jeffrey Lee has stopped uranium mining on his land at Koongarra and now wants to invite tourists to visit.  The proposal has excited tour operators who are frustrated by the ongoing closure of some of Kakadu's most popular attractions.

China lifts Australian beef export ban

 



China has lifted suspensions from Australian beef exporters, removing almost all of the $20 billion worth of trade sanctions it imposed. The bans were lifted on Wednesday night, with immediate effect, for five different abattoirs.


Sanctions remain on two abattoirs and rock lobster.


Beijing slapped sanctions on Australia in 2020 after Scott Morrison called for an independent inquiry into the origin of Covid-19.

Bob Rogers dies at 97

 



Australia's longest serving disc jockey Bob Rogers has died aged 97. The veteran radio presenter, who had a broadcasting career spanning 78 years, died at his Mosman home this morning.

Hidden store of weapons could be responsible for deadly blaze in Rafah

 



The Israel Defense Forces said Tuesday that a hidden store of weapons may have been the actual cause of a deadly blaze in southern Gaza’s Rafah, and that an airstrike that targeted an adjacent area had used small munitions that would not ignite such a fire on their own.

Peter Dansie dies in jail.

 



Peter Rex Dansie has died in jail.  He murdered his wife, Helen, by pushing her wheelchair into a shallow pond in Adelaide’s South Parklands in 2017 because he considered her a financial burden.  

He even fought from jail to claim half of his murdered wife's estate for himself.

There are “extreme concerns” for a mother and baby as police continue an urgent search after an umbilical cord and a placenta were found on the banks of the Cooks River in Sydney yesterday. 

The organs were located amid mangroves in an area police described as “particularly muddy”.

James Harrison planned the murder-suicide of his son Rowan

 



Two year old Rowan was found dead by police at his father James Harrison's East Lismore home earlier this month.  It is believed Harrison had planned the murder-suicide.  

His mother Dr Sophie Roome has released a photo of her son.

Dr Roome had taken out an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order against Harrison which had remained in place to protect her since July last year.

However, the law insisted that his father had regular access.
