According to Euromonitor, an independent market research company, the majority of tourists come to Australia to gamble. Almost 11 million people visited Melbourne's Crown Casino in 2010 so we know why James Packer is currently building another casino in Sydney.
Packer's Melbourne Crown Casino was ranked number one, the Gold Coast's Jupiter Casino was number two and Star Casino in Sydney came in third. Only 7.4 million tourists visited the Sydney Opera House.
The Great Wall of China was ranked first overall, followed by three Disney theme parks. Britain's most popular destination was a family fun park in Milton Keynes.
A spokesman for Australia's Tourism & Tourist Forum did not dispute the figures but suggested the Opera House had been short changed. "We know that people come to Sydney to see the Opera House" he said "There is no doubt it is an international draw card."
