Irish hero Red Hugh O'Donnell

O'DONNELL'S REMAINS: Valladolid's mayor, Oscar Puente (right), chats with Irish Ambassador to Spain, Sile Maguire, during their visit to the archaeological excavations in Valladolid where the mortal remains of Irish heroe Red Hugh O'Donnell are thought to be, in Valladolid, Spain on June 2nd. Red Hugh O'Donnell, an Irish hero who chaired the revolution against England during the 16th century, fled to Spain to finally die in 1602 in Valladolid and buried at Las Maravillas Chapel in a convent, the same chapel Cristobal Columbus was buried for some years. Unfortunately, the convent was demolished back in 1836 and the piece of land was sold. Now, that geographic spot is in downtown Valladolid, where the excavation works started in May 2020.
