Flying foxes inundate peaceful Australian country towns

For 38 years Sue Bailey has lived by an avenue of European trees just off the New England Highway at Tenterfield.

A camp of grey-headed flying foxes has settled in the trees of Millbrook Park each spring since 2019, denuding trees and defecating on infrastructure, until cooler weather sees them leave in autumn.

Bailey, a retired teacher, estimates the colony has expanded to cover about 25 acres in the past three years, encroaching on her garden and a nearby aged-care facility……………………...

The reason Israel won't help Ukraine

Israeli leaders have declined to provide weapons or defence systems to Ukraine and refused to join Western economic sanctions for fear of jeopardizing its security relationship with Russia, Michael Brodsky, the Israeli ambassador to Kyiv, said in an interview with U.S. newspaper The Washington Post on Dec. 18.

He acknowledged he had heard the frustration of some Ukrainian Jews but stressed Israel’s security ties to Russia create limits that cannot be overcome.

According to Brodsky, most Ukrainian Jews understand Israel is in a “tough position.”

“No government in Israel is going to jeopardize this interest for anybody else, including the Ukrainians,” he said.

The ambassador added that unlike the United States and Europe, Israel is not part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

“Our situation is much more fragile,” he said.

The Israeli Times of Israel online newspaper reported on Dec. 4 that Russia had reportedly requested that Israel not intervene or impede its efforts to transfer military equipment from Syria to Ukraine.

Ronald Train created his own Christian Church

People who knew Ronald Train during his days living in Toowoomba joked that “no church would accept him, so he had to make his own”.

Train believed – and would later write in a book – that Freemasons “give their allegiance to Lucifer” and were “a cancer”.

The constitution of his Christian Independent Fellowship (started after his physical church in Toowoomba closed and he moved interstate) says appointing women to leadership positions “will never be entertained”.

Marriage, Train has said, is “crucial to God and is crucial to society”……………..

Northern Lights Photographer of the Year 2022 MaryBeth Kiczenski

She writes:

Lady Aurora waits for no photographer or schedule.  However, when I returned from Canada to Chicago, I was greeted by an aurora forecast that was slated to be quite good.  I decided to choose Point Betsie as my main location for this aurora chase.  I was greeted with quite heavy winds but a beautiful sunset and warm weather.  It was super busy since it was a Friday and there were good conditions for auroras.  Around 11.30 pm she made herself known.  We cheered.  We clapped.  This is what makes it all worth it.

Great Pyrenees sheepdog kills 8 coyotes

A sheepdog is recovering at home after killing a pack of coyotes that attacked his owner’s flock in the US state of Georgia.  The Great Pyrenees dog Casper killed eight of the coyotes while protecting his sheep, which left him with serious wounds to his back and neck.

The sheepdog, who was only 20 months old when the attack happened, lost his tail and wasn’t found for two days. When returning, he had big flesh wounds that looked as if the coyotes had peeled the skin off while fighting, according to his owner John Wierwille.

The organisation Lifeline Animal Project has raised more than $20,000 to pay for Casper’s hospital bill.
