Russia to begin production of Chinese Kaiya cars

 




Jan 30 (Reuters) - Russian carmaker Avtotor on Monday said it has begun production of Chinese Kaiyi cars at its plant in Kaliningrad, Russia's exclave on the Baltic coast.

The company is preparing to start sales of the Kaiyi model E5 early this year and launch production of another three models by the end of the year.

Novak Djokovic wins Australian Open

 




Novak Djokovic has admitted he was “hurt” by the absence of his father at the Australian Open last night but he and his team decided it was best that Srdjan Djokovic not be courtside for his final.  His father was therefore watching from outside the stadium as his son defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 7-6.

Doctor Wanted - annual package worth $800,000





Quairading, a small shire in Western Australia’s wheatbelt, 16 kms east of Perth, is looking for a doctor.  On the table for a replacement GP willing to make the move is an annual package worth $800,000.   

The Shire has offered to cover all staffing and running costs of operating the town’s practice, leaving more than $800,000 in estimated gross billings to the doctor.

On top of that, the GP can also take advantage of rent-free accommodation in a modern four-bedroom, two-bathroom home, and could also pocket thousands more if they stick around thanks to the Federal Government’s Workforce Incentive Program Doctor Stream.

Australian home owners to pay rent to Indigenous elders

 




Australian property owners have been urged to start paying a weekly 'rent' tax to the traditional owners of the land their homes were built on ahead of Australia Day.


Under the 'Pay the Rent' model, homeowners would voluntarily pay a percentage of their income to a body led by Indigenous elders and administered without any government intervention.  https://tinyurl.com/4a8jf7tw

Tenterfield gunman shot dead

 




A 48-year-old man entered the Police Station in the NSW country town of Tenterfield at 4:45pm yesterday, produced a firearm and pointed it at officers inside.

The officers from the New England Police District then shot the man. He died at the scene.

Russian flag at Australian Open

 




The presence of a Russian flag in the stands at the Australian Open has prompted organisers to ban them from Melbourne Park.

The flag was visible on a fence behind fans on court 14 during a match between Ukraine's Kateryna Baindl and Russian Kamilla Rakhimova

Britian to supply 14 Challenger tanks

 




British Prime minister Rishi Sunak confirmed last week that the UK would provide Kyiv with 14 of its Challenger 2 main battle tanks to help its forces “push Russian troops back”.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded: “They are using this country as a tool to achieve their anti-Russian goals.”

“These tanks are burning and will burn just like the rest” he said.

UK is the first Western power to supply the Ukrainians with main battle tanks.

Jim Nolan dies, aged 72

 





Liberal senator Jim Molan has died at the age of 72 after a sudden decline in his health.

 

Molan suffered a “sudden and rapid” decline after Christmas before dying peacefully on Monday in the arms of his family.

“He was many things – a solider, a pilot, an author, a volunteer firefighter, and a senator. Most of all, he was an adored husband, father, grandfather, and brother,” his family said in a public statement on Tuesday.

Germany evades winter energy crisis

 




German Chancellor Olaf Scholz attended on Saturday the opening of Germany's second liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal since its reliance on Russian gas came to a close, celebrating the country's ability to get through the winter while evading an energy crisis.

Tanks from Germany not ready until 2024

 




Battle tanks from German industrial reserves wanted by Ukraine will not be ready to be delivered until 2024, the arms manufacturer Rheinmetall has warned.


“Even if the decision to send our Leopard tanks to Kyiv came tomorrow, the delivery would take until the start of next year,” Rheinmetall’s chief executive, Armin Papperger said.
