From the early days of October, the South African city of Johannesburg gets a powerful tint added to its landscape: a sea of purple petals from thousands of jacaranda trees blooms above the city's older suburbs. Despite being native to South America - and for that, it is now forbidden to plant new specimens - jacaranda trees are a loved feature of Gauteng province that attract guided tours and tourists.

Why isn't Hungary supporting Ukraine?


As European allies send weapons to Ukraine and try to minimize their dependence on Russian energy, Hungary has been taking a starkly different path. So far, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has refused to send military aid to Kyiv, and he recently concluded a new gas deal with the Kremlin to help Hungary weather the winter. He’s also more open to continuing normal diplomatic relations with Russia, traveling to Moscow for the funeral of Mikhail Gorbachev, who he said helped

Oct 3 (Reuters) - The military commissar of Russia's Khabarovsk region was removed from his post after half of the newly mobilised personnel were sent home as they did not meet the draft criteria, the region's governor said early on Monday.

Elon Musk's comments about Ukraine cause fury

 



Elon Musk has suggested that an election should be held in the regions annexed by Russia, supervised by the United Nations and that Russia must leave "if that is the will of the people".

He also said that Crimea should be declared as a part of Russia because it “has been” Russian territory since 1783 “until Khrushchev’s mistake.”
