October 20, 2022: A woman jogs in a street lined
with blossoming jacaranda trees in Johannesburg. From the early days of
October, the South African city of Johannesburg gets a powerful tint added to
its landscape: a sea of purple petals from thousands of jacaranda trees blooms
above the city's older suburbs. Despite being native to South America - and for
that, it is now forbidden to plant new specimens - jacaranda trees are a loved
feature of Gauteng province that attract guided tours and tourists.
