Aussie Germans get ready for German election

 


It has been a frantic process for German Australians looking to get their ballot papers in on time for the German election this weekend. (Polls open from 8am to 6pm local time on Sun 23 Feb)

Of the 29 parties on the ballot, it is likely between five and eight of will get enough votes to win seats in the 630-seat parliament, the Bundestag.

Exploding e-bike fatality in Sydney

 


Pakistani student Haider Ali died yesterday after his e-bike exploded in his bedroom. He used the bike for nightly Uber and Doordash deliveries. 

Almost all of exploding e-bikes will be due to the lithium-ion batteries yet shonky, cheap batteries are still being sold.

Europe worried Trump will withdraw troops from Baltics

 



The UK Telegraph reported that the US is seeking to control Ukraine's critical minerals, travel ports and natural resources in exchange for protection from Russia. 

European officials believe Donald Trump is likely to withdraw troops from the Baltics, leaving the continent vulnerable to Russia.

Moonshine liquor kills 124 people in Turkey

 



At least 124 people have died in Ankara and Istanbul in the past six weeks after drinking bootleg raki, and dozens more are in intensive care.  The strong aniseed flavoured raki is considered a national drink in Turkey.  

A major operation is under way to withdraw millions of bottles of the strong alcoholic aniseed drink in shops and markets.

The Russian delegation led by foreign minister Sergiei Lavrov is now in Riyadh ahead of tomorrow’s talks on bilateral relations with the US, which are also expected to include first exchanges on a potential peace deal on Ukraine.

James Howells loses hard drive to unlock $800m in bitcoin

 


Buried deep in a Welsh landfill, beneath layers of years-old garbage, there is a hard drive that holds the key to almost $800 million in bitcoin after accidentally throwing the drive away in 2013.   And now, after years of battling the local authority in court to retrieve the hard drive, James Howells has come up with a new plan: to simply buy the landfill.

NSW government officials are investigating after nurses at Bankstown Hospital, Rashad Nadir and Sarah Abu Lebdeh, wearing their NSW Health uniforms were filmed declaring they refuse to treat Israeli people and would "kill them" if they present to their ward.

Police allegedly found a vial of morphine in Nadir’s personal locker at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in Sydney.  He allegedly asked a former colleague to empty his locker.  But that staff member claimed they felt uncomfortable and instead called the police.

Warren Buffet sells healthcare provider stocks

 


Warren Buffett sold a big stake in a healthcare provider on Tuesday, causing the share price to sink 11 per cent.   He offloaded billions of dollars of stock in DaVita, a dialysis provider. 

Thousands of investors follow and mirror his market moves and DaVita's stock is the latest victim.

Need for national conversation on migration and citizenship

 


Opposition leader Peter Dutton said a video of two NSW nurses claiming they would kill Israeli patients was related to the "inadequacies" of Australia's migration system.  It shows the need for a "national conversation" on migration and citizenship” he said.

Ahmad “Rashad” Nadir and Sarah Abu Lebdeh have now been banned from practising “anywhere in Australia, in any context”.  They were deregistered by the Nursing and Midwiferey Council of NSW, effective from February 13.
