Malcolm Turnbull revealed that he lobbied successfully for his distant relative, the actress Angela Lansbury, to receive a damehood, despite having criticised the honour as an anachronism.

He says in his new memoir that he lobbied David Cameron to make his “auntie”, the star of Murder, She Wrote and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, a dame.

And he did.
