Belgian hospital workers turn their backs at the arrival of the
Belgian Prime Minister
Their protest focused on the
savings, underpaid and understaffed care sector. Staff are also angry about how
the government has dealt with the corona crisis and that it made it legally
possible during the corona crisis to claim care personnel, says the socialist
trade union ACOD on Facebook.
Wilmès said afterwards to the
RTBF that she had come to bring a "message of reconciliation".
"Everyone is aware of the plight of hospital staff. They were there before
the crisis and the difficulties have increased as a result. I can't imagine
that the post-crisis period is reduced to what it was before. It will be
necessary to structurally revalue the nursing profession. That's a
certainty."
Belgium’s
first female prime minister is Jewish
Sophie
Wilmes’ mother is Ashkenazi Jewish and lost several relatives in the Holocaust,
though reports claim 'only recently' did Judaism became an important factor in
her life.
