An installation by artist Sandeigh Kennedy of 657
pairs of shoes in memory of the more than 600 mass shootings that occurred in
the United States in 2023 is seen in Houston, Texas, as the country marks
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Each pair of shoes has "a marker denoting the location, date,
number of injuries, and the number of lives lost at each event." AFP
