Australian children under 16 banned from social media

TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, X and Instagram will face fines of up to 50 million Australian dollars for failure to prevent young children under 16 from holding accounts.

The government agreed to accept amendments in the Senate about privacy protections. Platforms would not be allowed to compel users to provide passports or driver’s licenses, nor demand digital identification through a government system.

Bi-partisan agreement on this issue was overwhelming so lets hope this law stops the bullies from taking more young Aussie lives.
