New York University caves to President Trump's threat

 



President Donald Trump threatened to cut $400 million in federal grants to Colombia University for "continued inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students."

Interim president Katrina Armstrong, issued a letter on Friday that said the university takes the cuts "very seriously" and is prepared to work with the government on its "legitimate concerns."

Man with the golden arm dies

 



James Harrison, the ‘man with the golden arm’, whose rare blood saved 2.4m babies, has died at age 88.  His blood contained precious anti-D, used to make medication for at-risk newborns.

It has been a frantic process for German Australians looking to get their ballot papers in on time for the German election this weekend. (Polls open from 8am to 6pm local time on Sun 23 Feb)

Of the 29 parties on the ballot, it is likely between five and eight of will get enough votes to win seats in the 630-seat parliament, the Bundestag.

Almost all of exploding e-bikes will be due to the lithium-ion batteries yet shonky, cheap batteries are still being sold.

The UK Telegraph reported that the US is seeking to control Ukraine's critical minerals, travel ports and natural resources in exchange for protection from Russia. 

European officials believe Donald Trump is likely to withdraw troops from the Baltics, leaving the continent vulnerable to Russia.

Moonshine liquor kills 124 people in Turkey

 



At least 124 people have died in Ankara and Istanbul in the past six weeks after drinking bootleg raki, and dozens more are in intensive care.  The strong aniseed flavoured raki is considered a national drink in Turkey.  

A major operation is under way to withdraw millions of bottles of the strong alcoholic aniseed drink in shops and markets.

James Howells loses hard drive to unlock $800m in bitcoin

 


Buried deep in a Welsh landfill, beneath layers of years-old garbage, there is a hard drive that holds the key to almost $800 million in bitcoin after accidentally throwing the drive away in 2013.   And now, after years of battling the local authority in court to retrieve the hard drive, James Howells has come up with a new plan: to simply buy the landfill.

NSW government officials are investigating after nurses at Bankstown Hospital, Rashad Nadir and Sarah Abu Lebdeh, wearing their NSW Health uniforms were filmed declaring they refuse to treat Israeli people and would "kill them" if they present to their ward.

Police allegedly found a vial of morphine in Nadir’s personal locker at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in Sydney.  He allegedly asked a former colleague to empty his locker.  But that staff member claimed they felt uncomfortable and instead called the police.

Religious zealots killed Elizabeth Rose Struhs

 




The parents and 12 members of a religious sect accused of killing eight-year-old Elizabeth Rose Struhs by withholding her type-1 diabetes medication, have been found guilty of manslaughter.

They believed “God would heal” her diabetes and she would be “raised from the dead” after they withheld her life-saving insulin. 

Her father has been acquitted of murder along with a church group leader due to a lack of evidence.

A 43 year old man has been arrested and is in custody after the "vile" vandalism of the NSW Police Wall of Remembrance in Sydney.

The words "evil" and "dogs" were seen inscribed on the monument.

Police out on Australia Day duties saw the damage at about noon yesterday, kicking off an investigation.

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council plans to auction 38 properties that have thousands of dollars in overdue rates owing on them.   The council's general manager says "every effort" has been made to contact the property owners, who have today been named in local newspapers alongside the amount they owe.

Women from Newcastle escaping domestic violence have been provided with a safe place to sleep in their cars – a car park.  It’s open 3 nights each week, has a secure fence, a female security guard and a support worker on the premises.  There is access to food and laundry, shower and lounge facilities.

As there are no safe houses available for women and children escaping a violent man, it's better than nothing.

How long will Europe continue to tolerate immigrant violence?

 


Two people, one a child, were killed in a knife attack in hte German city of Aschaffenburg. Chancellor Olaf Scholz condemned the "unbelievable act of terror" on a play-school group that left three more people wounded, and demanded to know why the failed asylum-seeker had been able to stay in the country.

Trump withdraws from WHO

 


The US is set to officially withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO) in January 2026 after the UN body received a formal letter from US President Donald Trump this week.

Trump also ordered Secretary of State Marco Rubio to “pause the future transfer of any US Government funds, supports, or resources to the WHO”.
