Rick Stein

Christopher Richard Stein OBE is an English chef, restaurateur and television presenter.  He is currently the head chef and co-owner of Bannisters at Mollymook, a small coastal town, 3 hours drive south of Sydney. We paid a visit on the weekend.

Gin and tonic $16
Beers (2) $16
1 bottle Peartree Sauv Blanc $49
Oysters selection (medium size) $4 each (9) $36
Prawn fritters (5) $24
Fish pie $44
Lobster thermidore $143
Side of chips $7
1 x ginger pudding $16
Flat white (2) $8
Drambuie (2) $20
Total $374

Doyles at Watsons Bay, considered by many to be the best seafood restaurant in Sydney, currently charges $73.60 for a whole lobster mornay which comes with chips and salad, and Mr Stein is charging almost double for a whole lobster which comes on its own, salad and chips are extra.

So was it worth it?  The venue was pleasant and the food well cooked but not extraordinary enough to warrant the price.  The fish pie's presentation was rather underwhelming, but still tasted good.
