Two women who allegedly approached a doctor seeking a circumcision of a two-week old baby girl in Western Australia have been charged by police. The circumcision was allegedly planned as part of cultural beliefs.
Procedures that remove part or all of the external female genitalia or cause injury to female genital organs for non-medical reasons are illegal across Australia.
Police say the doctor refused the women's request and reported them. The two women aged 23 and 50, are due to face court in Armadale.
