On this day, 11th February 2015, Captain of cruise ship Costa Concordia Francesco Schettino was convicted of manslaughter after he fled the sinking ship while passengers were still on board.
In court, Schettino said he had fallen overboard and landed in a lifeboat.
He remains incarcerated in a prison just outside Rome where he is expected to stay until he is around 80 years old.
