The
yearly festive meets - numbering more than 200 throughout the UK, give the
opportunity to showcase trail hunting and other lawful, albeit controversial,
hunting activities. However, protesters
say it is simply a "smokescreen" for the illegal hunting of foxes.
Fox
hunting was banned in England and Wales following the introduction of the
Hunting Act 2004, which came into force a year later. It is also banned in Scotland via
the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act 2002, but remains legal in
Northern Ireland.
