After a two year investigation of the child pornography site Playpen, the founder and 900 of his members have been arrested and over 300 children were rescued.
It's founder, Steven W. Chase, 58 was finally tracked down and brought to justice after many months of investigation, and last week, he was sentenced to 30 years behind
bars.
Nine hundred members of his secret site - only accessed through the dark web
- were also arrested. Investigations were carried out in Turkey, Peru, Chile,
Ukraine, Israel and Malaysia, according to the FBI, but the majority of arrests
were made in Europe.
The site he set up in August 2014 had over 150,000 users worldwide until
it was taken down by the FBI and was the biggest child pornography site ever.
EU Commissioner for the Security Union, Sir Julian King, said “a
hugely significant blow has been struck against one of the most heinous of
crimes, arguably the worst of all, thanks to the excellent transnational
cooperation of Europol with the FBI and US Department of Justice, as well as
other law enforcement agencies around the world.”
