Petition to release security
footage of police shooting special needs Palestinian struck down in court
The mother of Iyad al-Hallak, a
32-year-old special needs Palestinian shot dead by Israel Border Police in East
Jerusalem, said Friday the authorities were hiding the footage of the incident
from the public eye.
He was spotted carrying what
the police described as a "suspicious object," fled after being told
to freeze and was shot during the chase that followed.
Iyad's family said the object
was likely Iyad's cellphone. A petition was filed by the family requesting that
footage of Iyad's death be released, but an Israeli court struck it down last
week following a police request…..
