School drops KJ Rowling's name from one of its houses

The author shared intimate details of her private life after she was accused of hating the trans community, ALAMY

A school has dropped JK Rowling as a name for one of its houses after the author came under attack from transgender activists.

The Weald School in Billingshurst, West Sussex, wrote to parents announcing that it was abandoning plans to use Rowling’s name because she was “no longer felt to be an appropriate role model”. The school has an existing house system but is renaming them to give a better representation of gender, ethnicity, sexuality and gender identity.

The author of the Harry Potter series was accused of transphobia after she questioned why a headline referred to “people who menstruate” rather than women.

Yesterday the author shared intimate details of her private life, identifying herself as a survivor of sexual assault and an abusive marriage.
