Ghislaine Maxwell, the British
socialite charged with helping the late financier Jeffrey Epstein traffic
underage girls for sex, has claimed in court that her treatment in jail is so
bad it would be “fit for Hannibal Lecter”.
Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend and close associate, is awaiting trial in July on eight charges, including sex trafficking and perjury, and is being held in the Metropolitan Detention Centre in New York, having had three bail requests rejected.
In an attempt to overturn the most recent rejection, her lawyers claimed her prison conditions are worse than those of convicted sex offenders Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein and mob boss John Gotti, who were all given bail.
