Council calls for Aussie women to wear hijab

Victorian Dandenong Council has gone completely mad.  They want women to wear the hijab for three hours today as part of its plan to celebrate National Youth Week.

Institute of Public Affairs spokesman said "This doesn't encourage integration, this encourages separateness.  This is not what multicultural Australia is all about."

Islamic Friendship president Keysar Trad said it was a way for people to positively engage with the Muslim community and gain a different perspective.

Greater Dandenong Council is becoming famous for the wrong reasons. They were last in the news for holding public swimming pool sessions for Muslim women only.  How they think this is helping to integrate Muslims into the community is hard to understand.

Last week Reclaim Australia organized a number of protests across the country opposing sharia law, halal tax and Islamisation. When opposing anti-racist supporters turned up, police had a hard time separating the two groups.

Two women were seen burning the Australian flag. National RSL President Ken Doolan said "the RSL is appalled that anybody, regardless of their cause, would desecrate the Australian flag under which our forces have fought and continue to fight for the freedoms we are all privileged to enjoy."

It is not illegal to burn the Australia flag.  Two bills in 2003 and 2008 put forward to outlaw the practice failed to pass the Senate.

Words fail me.
