President Macron admitted today that he had failed to reconcile the French and that some of his compatriots had reason to loathe him.
In a startlingly contrite Bastille day interview, he presented a bleak view of the French mood after two years of insurrection over his reforms, followed by a coronavirus outbreak which is showing signs of revival. He sought to clear the air to offer a glimpse of a more protective leadership style in the final 30 months of his term and an expected run for re-election.
