Hong Kong's democratic freedoms crushed

Hong Kong’s democratic freedoms suffered a crushing new blow after four opposition MPs were expelled from the territory’s parliament by order of China. The remaining opposition members resigned in solidarity, leaving the Legislative Council dominated by supporters of Beijing and effectively ending its function as a forum for opposition and challenge to the pro-China Hong Kong government.
