France changes mind about Syria

Francois Hollande

Just a few days ago, French President Francois Hollande said he had evidence that Assad had used chemical weapons on his own people and was ready to support President Obama's plan to intervene in the Syrian civil war.  But something must have happened during the G20 to change his mind because now France says they will wait for the UN inspectors report.

It's been a very unlikely scenario in the past for Russia and China to have any influence over the West but this time, it seems they have. President Putin and Xi Jinping both asked members to step back and wait for proof from the UN and it seems the majority have agreed, all except President Obama, Australia and a few other loyal allies. "Yes we will wait for the inspectors' report as we will wait for the Congress vote" Mr Hollande said at the end of the Summit.

This situation is more dire than people realize.  Putin has already sent several warships to Syria and says he will back Assad all the way, no matter what.  The US has also sent warships to the area.

President Obama said he was elected to end wars, not start them but he believed deeply in world security and international norms and conventions had to be upheld.  Fine words indeed, but bombing Syria is intervening in a war that will give power to the rebels who are far worse than Assad, which doesn't make any sense.

Experience has proved to the friends of America, something President Obama still doesn't get - Iraq and Afghanistan are just the same today, if not worse, than before America intervened and dragged the rest of the world with them.

But it wasn't President Obama who charged into Iraq without any proof, it was President Bush.  We thought that Obama would be different, but it seems he's just the same.
