A Chinese vaccine expert has published a hasty apology and deleted a message to his nearly five million social media followers which said the country’s first approved vaccine was the “most unsafe in the world”.
The post by Tao Lina, who practises in Shanghai, said the jab developed by Beijing’s state-run Sinopharm had 73 listed side-effects including pain around the injection area, headache, high blood pressure, loss of vision and taste, as well as incontinence. He described the drug’s potential adverse impact as “unprecedented”. He compared it with the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine, which lists 12 side-effects including chills and joint pains.
The article on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, disappeared yesterday, followed by his apology. Source: The Times
