World Chess Champion from Norway. He became a chess grandmaster in 2004, when
he was as young as 13 years, which made him the third youngest grandmaster in
history. He is the highest rated player in the world and in the history of
chess.
GM Magnus Carlsen started his Tata
Steel Chess Tournament with a win. The world champion took some risks but
then was rewarded as he profited from a blunder by GM Alireza
Firouzja. The other winners of the day were GMs Anish Giri and Nils
Grandelius…….
