Live sheep export will end 1 May 2028

The federal Labor announced Australia will stop exporting live sheep from 1 May 2028 while unveiling a $107 million package to help the industry transition.

Supporters of the live sheep ban argue that live exports are only a small component of the sheep industry.  Australia’s lamb and mutton export industry was worth A$4.5 billion in 2023.
