The federal Labor announced Australia will stop exporting live sheep from 1 May 2028 while
unveiling a $107 million package to help the industry transition.
Supporters of the live sheep ban
argue that live exports are only a small component of the sheep industry. Australia’s lamb and mutton export industry
was worth A$4.5 billion in 2023.
But live sheep exports by sea made up less than 2% of this trade.............
