Steven Galcsik arrested for running over his wife with a car

 




Steven Galcsik, 47, allegedly ran over his wife Natalie, 46, with a car at their Pokolbin home where they ran a busisness called Unlax @ Hunter Valley, a luxury bed-and-breakfast.   

Her husband was arrested and refused bail.

Ms Galcsik's sudden death comes just 14 months after the couple's seven-year-old son died in a drowning tragedy in a dam near the property.

There was a presence of Hezbollah flags at a pro-Palestinian rally in Melbourne over the weekend.

Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke said "any indication of support for a terrorist organisation is unequivocally condemned".  

“I have made clear from day one that I will consider refusing and cancelling visas for anyone who seeks to incite discord in Australia," he added.

Many complaints centre on the fees charged when residents leave, which often include an exit fee and the cost of refurbishing the villa.

Labor reveals back-to-back surpluses

 




Arriving back in Australia after high-level economic talks in China, today Jim Chalmers will reveal the final set of Budget numbers for 2023-24 includes a $15.8 billion surplus.

The headline figure — Labor’s second-consecutive surplus — is $6.4 billion higher than the $9.3 billion surplus forecast in the May budget.

“We’re the first government to post back-to-back surpluses in nearly two decades,” he said.

Israel’s military says it has killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah

 



The Israeli security cabinet had previously pulled back from plans to kill Nasrallah, but having established that he was due to attend a meeting at the command complex, approval to kill him went ahead.  

The assassination had been carried out by a squadron of F15I jets equipped with bunker-busting bombs.


Ali Khamis Moh'd guilty of molesting female patients

 




Ali Khamis Moh'd, a male nurse who molested three separate women at Sydney’s Norwest and Nepean private hospitals was found guilty and will spend at least three-and-a-half years in jail.

He asked a 25-year-old patient to inspect a surgical wound on her groin area just after her heart operation.  He massaged her groin before touching her vagina with his fingers.

He will be eligible for release in 2028.

 


Jon Waldron, CBA IT executive jailed for corruption

 




Jon Waldron, 53, a disgraced Commonwealth Bank IT executive was sentenced to 4 years jail in Sydney yesterday.  He was found guilty of seven charges of corruptly receiving $US1.9million as a reward for helping American IT firm, ServiceMesh, secure two large contracts with CBA.

Waldron will be eligible for parole on July 13, 2028. 

 


Mohammed Ismail and his deputy Hussein Ismail confirmed dead by IDF

 




Muhammed Ismail, the commander of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile unit in southern Lebanon, his deputy Hussein Ismail, and other commanders were killed in the Beirut strike, IDF has confirmed.

The Hezbollah rocket and missile commander was responsible for numerous attacks on Israel amid the war, including Wednesday’s ballistic missile fire at Tel Aviv, according to the IDF.

Israel only notified the US about the IDF’s major airstrike targeting Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut after its planes were already in the air and the operation was in motion.

A Viking burial ground that was used during the 9th and 10th centuries has been discovered in the village of Ã…sum in Denmark.

The skeletons are so well-preserved archaeologists believe they will be able to pull DNA samples for scientific analysis.

 


SpaceX to the rescue

 





SpaceX is set to launch two new crew members to the International Space Station on Saturday, in a capsule that will eventually bring home two NASA astronauts who flew to orbit on Boing’s problem plagued Starliner spacecraft.

Hague and Gorbunov are expected to remain at the space station until February. On their return flight back to Earth, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will ride with them.............

Israel hits Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut

 




The Israeli military said Friday it struck the headquarters of Hezbollah in Beirut.  Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was the target.  

It was not immediately clear if Nasrallah was at the site, and Hezbollah declined to comment.

Jim Charmers concedes asking for negative gearing changes

 




Treasurer Jim Chalmers conceded he asked his department to model the impact of changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax concessions. 

About 1.1 million Australians had a negatively geared property in 2020-21, according to Australian Taxation Office data.

The government has again left the door open to revisiting the reforms ahead of the next election.

Adam Charles Lusk found guilty of multiple rapes

 

 



Adam Charles Lusk, 45, a Perth father-of-two has been found guilty of drugging then filming himself raping multiple women and girls – some of them still at school — over an almost two-year period. 

He spiked some of their drinks then raped them at his home while they were unconscious and many have no memory of the assaults.

A jury has found South Australian MP Troy Bell guilty of theft and dishonesty charges for stealing more than $436,000 from an educational not-for-profit.

The jury of eight women and four men returned their verdicts on Thursday night after a three-month trial in the SA District Court and more than two days of deliberations.

US retired judge kills himself before FBI arrives to arrest him

 



 

Stewart Rosenwasser 72, a former US prosecutor and retired judge killed himself yesterday with a self-inflicted gunshot wound as the FBI arrived at his home in New York to arrest him. 

Federal prosecutors allege that Rosenwasser had been taking bribes worth $63,000 while working inside the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Police have no suspects or people of interest.

 


How many Israeli hostages left in Gaza?

 



Of the 251 Israelis taken hostage, 154 have either been released by Hamas, rescued by the Israel Defense Forces, recovered dead, or killed in encounters.

Justin Mohamed would be axed on day one

 




Australia’s First Nations Ambassador Justin Mohamed would be axed on “day one” if the Coalition wins government, Peter Dutton has promised.  

His overseas trips include the US, Switzerland, Vanuatu and Dubai and add up to total $350,000.

Dutton said no one could point to what the position had achieved. "It's the only position of its type in the world" he said."


Renewables and nuclear companions, not competitors

 



Peter Dutton said the Coalition would treat nuclear and renewables as “companions, not competitors”, warning that Labor’s approach of renewables only was “doomed to fail”.

The upfront cost would be “significant” but would be balanced out by the nuclear reactors’ 80-year lifespan.  

“But, I can give you this guarantee; our nuclear plan will cost a fraction of the Government’s reckless $1.3 trillion plan,” he said.

 


Israel shuts down Al Jazeera office in the West Bank

 




On live television, heavily armed Israeli soldiers raided Al Jazeera’s occupied West Bank bureau in Ramallah and handed the bureau head, Walid al-Omari, a notice to shut it down.  The soldiers ordered everyone working the overnight shift at the bureau to leave, telling them they could take only their personal belongings.

The order came from the Israeli military authority despite the bureau being in Area A, an area delineated as being under Palestinian control in the Oslo Accords.
