Elderly prostitutes make documentary

Twin Dutch prostitutes will feature in a candid documentary about their lives at a film festival in New York this summer.  Called "Meet the Fokkens", the 69 year old twins are veterans of Amsterdam's infamous tourist attraction, the Red Light District, where prostitutes advertise themselves in windows fronting the street.

Louise and Martine started work in the early 60's and talk about how the industry has changed over decades.  In the old days police would knock on the window if a girl was showing too much ankle, now the girls deal coke from their cubicles.

Louise had to retire 2 years ago because of her arthritis, but Martine is still working and says she can't live on a state pension.

The sisters talk about how they managed to escape from the control of their pimps, ran their own brothel and set up the first trade union for prostitutes.

Directors Gabrielle Provaas and Rob Schrode said "This is the story we wanted to tell, Louise and Martine are real old-fashioned Amsterdam hookers - liberated, cheerful and not afraid of anybody."
