Australian bush fires 2013

Tasmanian tourists evacuated by ferry

As firefighters face the worst conditions in our state’s history, there are now 100 fires burning across NSW and 21 are uncontained.  Eighty seven firefighting teams are on standby in NSW and ACT, ready to swing into action.

It’s going to reach 43C in Sydney today and in a city of four and a half million people, it will be a real test of how well our electricity grids hold up as everyone turns the air up full blast.  At 6am this morning, it was already 30C in Nowra.

Authorities are urging people in high risk areas to stay glued to their radio, tv and social media and to have everything packed, ready to go if told to get out.

But it’s not just NSW, the whole country is burning.  ABC’s 7.30 report last night gives an account of one lucky Tasmanian family.  http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-01-07/dunalley-measures-tasmanian-bushfire-impact/4455786
