Germany has claimed that the Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a nerve agent from the novichok family, the same group of Cold War-era toxins used in the attempted assassination of Sergei Skripal in Salisbury two years ago.
Tests at a military laboratory proved “beyond doubt” that the poison was one of the novichok compounds, which are banned under international chemical weapons treaties, German officials said.
