Australian Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg brings down his budget tonight

Opinion piece by By Ian Verrender. After decades of dumb reliance on immigration for domestic growth and shipping red dirt to a developing world, it provides a chance to invest in badly neglected infrastructure and an opportunity to wean the nation off its overly-dependent relationship with an increasingly hostile China. While our forecast debt seems massive, it is likely to be only around 50 per cent of GDP, way below many other G20 nations. That's primarily because we entered this crisis with minimal debt even if it has been rising for a decade. Look at Japan. Its debt is around 250 per cent of the size of its economy.
