Neglected Aboriginal children will be adopted

Someone has finally come out and said what we knew to be true - Australian authorities were so vilified for once taking neglected Aboriginal children away from their parents, they refused to interfere further, and allowed them to stay.

Now Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles, Australia's first indigenous state or territory leader, said governments have failed Aboriginal children because they would be accused of creating another Stolen Generation.  So we can't win, we're damned if we do, and damned if we don't.

If necessary, Mr Giles says he's going to remove neglected children from their parents and place them in adopted homes.  "Whatever we do, has to be about making parents take responsibility for their kids and if they won't, we're prepared to provide alternative solutions and if that means those kids are loved and cared for by other parents, then so be it" he said.

Since federal intervention, only one child has been adopted in the last decade.  He's angry about what's happening to his people.  "You mean to tell me when we've got all these alleged cases of chronic child sexual abuse, children running around on petrol, going on the streets at night sexualising themselves in some circumstances, and there's only one permanent adoption for fear of a Stolen Generation? That's not standing up for kids" he said.  He's ready to act and says his cabinet is fully behind him.

So at last, someone who can, namely Adam Giles, has made a courageous decision to try and fix the problems that have been allowed to continue for decades.
