Elle McPherson underwent a lumpectomy, and learned that cancer had no clear margins - meaning it could have spread. Doctors said she needed a 'mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and hormone replacement' but she decided against it. Instead, she underwent eight months of intense therapy with doctors in Phoenix, Arizona, taking a holistic approach.
There is concern that women will follow Elle's advice and refuse traditional breast cancer therapy to pursue the holist therory of healing.
Rather than just treating the particular part of the body that is diseased, holistic health practitioners treat the person as a whole with vitamin supplements, spiritual practices etc rather than traditiinal therapies.
