UK releases thousands of prisoners to ease overcrowding

 

Thousands of inmates in the UK were released yesterday as part of the government's plan to ease overcrowding.  About 1,700 prisoners in England and Wales will be freed with a total of 5,500 released during September and October.  

This is on top of the 1,000 prisoners who are usually freed every week.
