Global Warming

As a lay person, I find Global Warming and Climate Change difficult to understand as there seems to be good arguments from both sides. When Kevin Rudd and the rest of the world went to Copenhagen to discuss global warming, it soon became clear that the big polluters like India, China and the US weren't really serious about taking drastic action to fix the problem. Then when some scientists were found to be liars, Global Warming seemed to lose credibility.

But the planet IS warming - 2010 was the warmest year ever recorded. Greenland's icesheet is a major driver of rising sea levels and today we learn that it shed a record amount of melted snow and ice last year. The 2010 runoff was more than twice the average annual melt in Greenland over the previous three decades. If their icesheet were to melt entirely, it would raise ocean levels by approximately 7 metres, drowning coastal cities around the world. By century's end, Greenland could contribute as much as 50 cm to average worldwide sea levels.

It makes you think.
